Batflyer was a fantastic unique flying rollercoaster experience at Lightwater Valley back in the day. However the ride did not offer much to thrill seekers but was more a case of the experience which some people saw as its only downside.

Located between Fort William Adventure Playground and the Pub in the Wood, Batflyer would swing riders through the forest trees. Queues for this ride could get very long due to the poor capacity but the experience was worth it. Guests would sit in pairs in a suspended car which would be then taken up by a lift. When you reached the top, the car would be released, sending it off through the trees.

The track consisted of curves which flew the riders through the woods, wind brushing against your face, trying to give the experience of flight. There were no big drops in this ride, just a slow decline to maintain speed. As the car went round the track, it would swing itself making it a fun ride for the family. Riders would not know where the next turn would be due the suspended car hiding the track from view.

The car would make its final few turns, slowing down until a complete stop back at the station. Batflyer was the ultimate flying experience!

Overall Batflyer was a ride that made Lightwater Valley so unique back in the early 90's.

Batflyer opened its wings in 1996 to members of the public. The ride was manufactured by Caripro and was operational at Lightwater Valley for 6 years, with its removal in the 2002 closed season.

The ride only had 3 cars running which lead to the very poor capacity and long queues. The Batflyer was sold and is now operational at Miniatura Park in Cornwall, under the same name.
