There was once a Grizzly Bear let loose at Lightwater Valley but it unfortunately failed to meet to meet the grade required for many. The rollercoaster would have no doubt gave you some enjoyment, just not quite enough to satisfy your thrill buds!
Queuing up for the ride, you would pass under a nice carved entrance and a few sculpted grizzly bears around the queueline! You would then move up the station stairs where you would board your car, which were nicely decorated with the ride logo on the front. After pulling down your restraint you would wait for the operator to send you off, literally! They would have most probably given the car a push!
Climbing the lift hill you could have a glance at the track of which you were about go round. The first drop was pretty much the best thing the ride had to offer with a little airtime quickly followed by a poor second drop. The car would then taken on a lot of twists and turns, gaining pace throughout whilst making its way around the track. With a sudden stop you'd soon find yourself back the station.
By now you would have perhaps realised the ride wasn't worth the wait afterall! Theming on this ride was average by Lightwater Valley standards but The Grizzly Bear was most let down by the uninspiring track layout.
Overall The Grizzly Bear was as grizzly as it looked!
In 2004 The Grizzly Bear settled down on the former Beaver Rapids site, despite the opening date being originally planned for 2003.
Manufactured by Italian company Pinfari, the ride was re-located from Spanish City Amusement Park as the Cyclone. The cars held 4 passengers each and there was a total of 4 cars on the track, with 2 in the station at all times.
Following poor reliability, Lightwater Valley put the ride up for sale in late 2008. It was later by travelling Dutch showman, Collin Buwaldda for £45,000.
