Welcome to Lightwater Valley's most strangest and unusual ride ever, The Toad Hole! Guests were dropped through a hill in a skip on a rope, literally! The Toad Hole was a classic and outdated water chute, enclosed inside a hill.

The queue line would lead guests up a small hill and inside a small cavernous area. You would be told to wait at a door whilst other guests took a ride. This created good tension and excitement for first time riders, especially when you heard the small screams of unsuspecting riders inside - we don't know why though.

Once entered through the door you would be greeted by a boat, well a skip, and be asked to take your seat. The lights then dimmed slightly as a small weird creature, a badly re-themed devil, popped his head up and said something quite inaudible. The boat was then released, going down a small drop, back up and down into the lake outside! This may have got you wet!

That's it, the ride was now over, an air of disappointment within the boat. You would be asked to exit to your left and the skip, sorry boat, would be took up the ramp by a rope. Theming was minimal on this ride but the landscaping was second to none, it was something to admire when theming hadn't really take off in the UK at the time. The Toad Hole was the skip on a rope ride, very classy!

Overall The Toad Hole was a fairly poor water ride that was seriously outdated. Despite this it certainly had a unique charm about it, may the memory of it live on forever!

The Toad Hole was originally called The Devil's Cascade when it first arrived at the park back in 1987. The ride was renamed The Toad Hole in 1989 and received some kind of facelift, new signs really.

The ride derailed in June 2006 and the park management decided not to re-open the ride due to serious faults with the hydraulic system.
