The Viper has stuck its venom into Lightwater Valley's history forever - a ride that is sorely missed by many people. The Viper was located on the Eagles Claw site and sounded great behind the trees, the terrifying screams of the riders.

Despite these screams, you shouldn't have been alarmed as The Viper was a nice family rollercoaster, which sent you around the venomous winding coils of the snake. The red track swooped and curved through the green supports, giving the ride its name! The train seated upto 12, depending if you wanted to sit in pairs. The Viper would take you up a spiral lift hill, round and round making its way up the track. The train would then make a steep curving drop, making a tight banked turn and back up.

Around another corner and down a 2nd swooping drop to the right, getting very close to the ground. The train makes another tight curve around the centre, continuing to make its way down to the ground, around the last bend and into the brake run. The Viper was a smooth rollercoaster with a deadly bite!

Overall The Viper was an average steel rollercoaster that lost its sting as the years past.

History

The Viper was not always called this, when it arrived at the park in 1996 it was called The Zyklen! The ride was renamed the following year so it fitted in with Lightwater Valley's urge to name rides after animals.

The Viper was manufactured by Schwarzkopf and is a City Jet / Jet 400 model. The ride uses an electric spiral lift and was designed by Ingenieur Buro Stengel GmbH. The Viper was removed in 2001 and operated at Loudon Castle as Slitherin' until 2004!

Did You Know?

  • The Viper was originally called The Zyklen!
